A Typical Day at RAFTWe get up and have breakfast about 8 am. Brazil is wonderful for fruit and so for breakfast we have a selection of juices, fruits, bacon and eggs and toast. Need we mention coffee and tea?
Most walks take more than half a day and we leave about nine. Taking sandwiches for lunch, we walk slowly, pausing to identify and photograph orchids, watch birds, collect seed and chat about the habitats and often sharing very valuable knowledge. The experience visitors themselves bring to us is always appreciated. We call it learning by osmosis. Generally we return to the house between three and four, tired but appreciative and enjoy the main meal of the day. This may be meat or fish with a number of vegetable, rice and salad dishes, followed by a pudding. The food is always freshly prepared, caters for all tastes and is, frankly, superb. The evening is kept for discussion, taking notes, refreshing our memories of the huge numbers of Latin names collected that day and relaxation. We have a light supper of soup or a snack around 9 pm. |
